Shall scape his punishment ordaind, and wee

And excellent then what thy minde contemnes; [ 1015 ]

The penaltie pronounct, doubt not but God

To better hopes his more attentive minde

By death brought on our selves, or childless days

Labouring had raisd, and thus to Eve replid.

Eve, thy contempt of life and pleasure seems

Or if thou covet death, as utmost end [ 1020 ]

We are by doom to pay; rather such acts

So snatcht will not exempt us from the paine [ 1025 ]九*九*藏*書

Hath wiselier armd his vengeful ire then so

For loss of life and pleasure overlovd.

Satan, who in the Serpent hath contrivd

Part of our Sentence, that thy Seed shall bruise

I have in view, calling to minde with heed [ 1030 ]

To make death in us li九-九-藏-書ve: Then let us seek

That excellence thought in thee, and implies,

The Serpents head; piteous amends, unless

She ended heer, or vehement despaire

Had entertaind, as did her Cheeks with pale.

To be forestalld; much more I fear least Death

But Adam with ｒｅaｄ•９９ｃsｗ•ｃｏｍsuch counsel nothing swayd, [ 1010 ]

Broke off the rest; so much of Death her thoughts

Some safer resolution, which methinks

Would be revenge indeed; which will be lost

To argue in thee somthing more sublime

Resolvd, as thou proposest; so our Foe

Of con九_九_藏_書tumacie will provoke the highest

Not thy contempt, but anguish and regret

Against us this deceit: to crush his head [ 1035 ]

Instead shall double ours upon our heads. [ 1040 ]

But self-destruction therefore saught, refutes

Be meant, whom I conjecture, our grand Foe
